Virginia Electronic Components, or “VEC,” was founded in 1949 in Charlottesville, Virginia and was originally called “Virginia Radio Supply.” As the name implies, our business was initially supplying vacuum tubes and electronic parts for shortwave radio enthusiasts and radio/television repair shops in the Virginia market. Over the next few decades electronics manufacturing grew in the United States. Our electronics business expanded and the name was changed to Virginia Electronic Components, still our “official name.” VEC quickly gained a reputation as the largest stocking distributor in the State of Virginia, and a leading distributor in the United States, a reputation we still proudly wear today.

During the late 1980′s & early 1990′s, as our electronics business was thriving, VEC decided to diversify into the contractor market and supply cable, connectors and other products to the fast growing “Voice & Data” market. That business has since grown to be a substantial part of our current sales. In recent years we have expanded our business to also include Industrial Automation, Security/Surveillance and Access Control products and have added stocking locations in Lynchburg, Virginia and Raleigh, North Carolina. To service our growing European business, we have also added sales offices in Munich, Germany and Rome, Italy. We are a proud member of the Edge Marketing Group, giving us access to more than 200 product lines and over $90 Million of available inventory.
